First trip of this year !!

This year began with a trip to TamilNadu, our neighbouring state. . We were there on for a family trip trying to get some quality time. A few temples, few picturesque views, hill tops and unknown land that's what mattered most to us.

Let me tell you more about this two day trip which was an adventure of its kind. It was an all ladies trip to begin with. (We seemed to have taken the tag line - why should boys have all the fun very seriously.) We began our journey in the early hours at about 5 am. It was very foggy on this very morning that made driving a difficult task. All vehicles were on their high beams and we had no option but to drive slow. This went on till the sun peeped out and made the day look brighter. And from there we accelarated leaving behind Bangalore, Hosur and driving towards Dharmapuri. Dharmapuri was our first stop, we stopped there at about 8 am for breakfast. Served on the banana leaves the idli's tasted nothing but heavenly with 5 kinds of chutney's that were served along. After the heavy breakfast we speeded towards Salem. Just 30 km from Salem is Yercad which is a famous hill station. We had been there on our last visit. But once we were in Salem we decided we would see the Ardhanaareeshwara Temple at Tiruchengode which was approximately the same distance from Salem ( women's mind, you never know when they decide to change). Little did we know that this temple was situated on a hill, thankfully the vehicle could reach till the temple else climbing the hill around 12 in the noon would be tiresome. The temple had some amazing sculpture and as it was on the hilltop, it had some spectacular views too. We took the blessings of the lord, had lunch at the temple and moved on with our journey. Only after I clicked some beautiful pictures.

We headed towards Namakkal, the roads were good. We went past many fields along side the roads. It was a warm day with bright sunlight. Probably this is the best time to visit TamilNadu. From Namakkal we took a deviation towards Kolli hills which was around 80kms. Never before had we been there. Once we reached the foot of the hill, at the check post we got to know that we had to tarvel for about 35 kms to reach the hilltop. The whole journey, to reach the peak was exciting. There were 70 hairpin curves to be handled to reach a height of 1100 m above sea level ( that's almost 1/8th of the height of mt.everest). There's a whole city dwelling on the top. It might not be as famous as Yercad but it's worth all the pain sitting through the whirlpool ride to the top. It's most importantly beautiful and serene place. It's covered with mist. Very less tourists ( or probably we had come during the off - season ) The view point is breathtaking. All that's visible are the dense tree growth and tiny towns and lakes. you have many places to see in about a few kms distance. Shiva temple, waterfall, boat club. We didn't come across any wildlife as we had hoped to. After spending about 2 hours on the hill, it was now time to get down and head towards Srirangam. The downhill journey was equally exciting. We got off the hill getting a view of one the most spectacular sunsets ever. We reached Srirangam at about 9:45 pm. It was dinner and tying ourselves to the bed. More about the stay at Srirangam in the next post.
